The primary goal of the Juvenile Services
program (JSP) is to provide preventative services to
enrolled Wichita youth who are considered “at-risk”
of entering the juvenile justice system and who have not yet
exceeded (18) years of age. Service area is state-wide and
may include the following services:
§
referrals and/or assistance for
those adolescents who may have emotional or behavioral
problems,
§
referrals for counseling
services for substance abuse or behavioral health issues,
and/or family and individual counseling,
§
advocacy services for school
related problems,
§
advocacy representation in the
state or federal juvenile system and with juvenile justice
agencies,
§
monitoring of youth who are in
custody of the state Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA),
§
referrals for other
preventative services,
§
emergency financial assistance
for youth in custody or youth who are clients of the JSP
(based on income & financial need)
The JSP also sponsors a variety of other
activities throughout the year. These activities are:
§
annual summer youth workshops
or activities for youth,
§
annual incentive awards for
youth with high academic achievement (grades of “B” and
above) or for those who may excel in other areas,
§
community awareness activities
that promote positive youth development, and
§
community awareness workshops
that will educate local youth service providers on
delinquency related issues.
While a participant of the JSP we will make
every effort to help you to help your child. But because we
are not your child’s legal guardian we are limited in our
capacities to assist. And while our services are voluntary,
we do expect the youth and their parent/legal guardian to
cooperate fully with the court and the Office of Juvenile
Affairs in regards to any case plan they may devise for your
child. Failure to comply with a court order is not only a
violation but could result in program services being
terminated. The JSP does not provide
assistance for court costs, criminal fines, probation fees,
restitution, or any legal representation fees.
