Each year the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development provides funds for Community Development
Projects throughout the nation. Indian tribes in Oklahoma
compete for the available funds for via a grant application.
Successful tribes are awarded the grant usually within a 180
day period. The purpose of the Community Development Block
Grant Program for Indian Tribes and Alaska Native Villages
is the development of viable Indian and Alaska Native
Communities, involving the creation of decent housing,
suitable living environments, and economic opportunities
primarily for persons with low-and-moderate-incomes as
defined in 24 CFR 1003.4
Our tribe has been successful in securing grants in the past
four awards.
The projects include the following:
Project B-00-SR-40-3286, a Community Facilities Improvements
Project which provided hydrants, for fighting fires,
increased water pressure, an independent water source (water
tower) and additional parking and access roads, this project
is complete.
Project B-01-SR-40-3286, provided a structure to house the
health programs and additional parking. This project is
complete.
Project B-02-SR-40-3286, provided a structure to house the
social services programs administered by the tribe. This
project was completed in April 2005.
Project B-03-SR-40-3286, will construct an estimated 6,000
s.f. restaurant with 100 parking spaces on the west side of
Anadarko. We should complete this project within the year.
