COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT

Gerald W. Collins, Director

Each year the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provides funds for Community Development Projects throughout the nation. Indian tribes in Oklahoma compete for the available funds for via a grant application. Successful tribes are awarded the grant usually within a 180 day period. The purpose of the Community Development Block Grant Program for Indian Tribes and Alaska Native Villages is the development of viable Indian and Alaska Native Communities, involving the creation of decent housing, suitable living environments, and economic opportunities primarily for persons with low-and-moderate-incomes as defined in 24 CFR 1003.4

Our tribe has been successful in securing grants in the past four awards.

The projects include the following:

Project B-00-SR-40-3286, a Community Facilities Improvements Project which provided hydrants, for fighting fires, increased water pressure, an independent water source (water tower) and additional parking and access roads, this project is complete.

Project B-01-SR-40-3286, provided a structure to house the health programs and additional parking. This project is complete.

Project B-02-SR-40-3286, provided a structure to house the social services programs administered by the tribe. This project was completed in April 2005.

Project B-03-SR-40-3286, will construct an estimated 6,000 s.f. restaurant with 100 parking spaces on the west side of Anadarko. We should complete this project within the year.
